Over the past few months I saw several nice examples of what you can do with clay.  So I gave it try myself and made a few small dishes and labels. 

 You can find a nice tutorial here how to make the doily plate. 
 For the labels I cut out rounds and rectangular pieces of clay and imprinted them with a stamp.
You should make the hole before the clay dries.
I used air drying clay. For my Dutch readers who don't have a craft store anywhere near them, I bought mine at Hema. I also saw clay at Blokker. You have to look in the toy section though. You can use acrylic paint to paint the clay once it is dry like I did with the plate.
